Socially Distant Fall Activities in Pittsburgh

Now that it is fall and October is fast approaching, the leaves are falling and the weather is getting cooler it is time to partake in Pittsburgh’s favorite fall activities. Fall is a particularly beautiful time in Western Pennsylvania and there are a ton of new and exciting events happening in and around the Pittsburgh area you can safely practice social distancing while still having fun! 

 

Sorgel Orchards Fall Festival: Sorgel Orchards will be opening their Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard for picking and their market will be filled with great take out items like fresh produce and apples, candy apples, cider donuts, fresh-baked pies, and pumpkin treats galore.  A limited number of guests will be allowed in the field to ensure social distancing.  


Phipps Conservatory Fall Flower Show: Opening Saturday, Oct. 10 enjoy vibrant colors and tranquil scenes abound at Phipps Conservatory's annual Fall Flower Show.  Be sure to purchase tickets in advance to secure your spot!  This is the perfect family-friendly event where you can take your children to learn about plants and maybe even learn a few tips yourself!


McConnells Mills State Park: McConnells Mill State Park, in Lawrence County, encompasses 2,546 acres of the spectacular Slippery Rock Creek Gorge.  This is the perfect place to spend your weekend hiking. The park features beautiful changing leaves and views you won’t want to miss.  The park is open year-round, sunrise to sunset and is the perfect fall weekend getaway. All visitors will be required to wear a mask when entering state park buildings. 

 

OktoberQuest: You’ve heard of Oktoberfest but have you enjoyed an OktoberQuest? Experience the beauty of the Northside by bike and enjoy delicious samples from each of the participating locations: Allegheny City Brewing; Bier's Pub; Penn Brewery; Spring Hill Brewing; and Threadbare Cider House. South Park Hay Day: Head over to South Park to enjoy South Park Hay Day! This is the perfect fall event where you can safely social distance!  Families can enjoy hay rides, a hay maze, a pumpkin patch trip, a barnyard petting zoo and much more.  

 

Arsenal Cider House: Spend your evening unwinding at Arsenal Cider House.  With three different locations in Wexford, Lawrenceville, and Finleyville, Arsenal Cider House specializes in hard apple cider, cider-style fruit and grape wines, and meades.  All locations now offer outdoor seating and growler refills!
